WEATHER UNTIL MAY 31, 2023, ANALYSIS AND FORECAST
The core of cold air near the Alps, responsible for the most unstable weather in the north, is leaving the scene and tends to march with a retrograde movement towards Spain. Therefore, conditions tend to improve and on Friday the instability will decreaseremaining active in the Alps, mountainous areas in general and especially in inland areas of southern Italy.
For the weekend a greater thrust of the anticyclone will materialize, although the maximum pressure will always be relegated to the north of the Alps, in essence, the high pressure will not be able to guarantee total protection. Storms will always be lurking at least in the mountains. Temperatures will rise a few degrees thanks to more sun.
The heat will not reach excessive levels for the moment. The scenario does not seem to change for the rest of May, with storms still mainly during the day. The anticyclone will remain solid in north-central Europe, leaving the Mediterranean at the mercy of a pressure gap with instability fueled by new high-altitude infiltrations from the northern quadrants.
The instability could even temporarily worsen in the first days of next week, due to this gentle cyclonic circulation at a higher altitude, with a foothold between the Balearic Islands and Sardinia. Electrical storms will be more common in mountainous areas, also involving plains and coasts. No changes are expected, as a trend, not even for the first days of June. There will still be thunderstorms.
IN DETAIL
Friday May 26: more sunny periods in the north, plus thunderstorms in the central-eastern Alps and Pre-Alps, locally at night invading Friuli and the Veneto plain. The bulk of the instability will affect the South and the Islands. Thunderstorms from the mountains can be pushed towards the plains and locally towards the coasts.
Saturday May 27: some showers in the northwest in the morning, also in the Po Valley. During the day, more daytime storms over the interior and mountainous areas, especially in the south and in Sicily.
Sunday May 28: sunny, but rains near the Alps and the interior of the Center-South.
More weather trends: the pressure gap in the Mediterranean will further drive the development of thunderstorms, which may be more widespread. The heat will be decidedly moderate, without excesses.
