The first cycle of meetings dedicated to Sicilian PDO, PGI and QS products organized and coordinated by DOS Sicilia, that is, the Association of Consortiums for the Promotion and Valorization of Typical Sicilian Agri-Food Products in Sicily, will begin this week and end in 2024 DOP, IGP and QS brand that was born in 2020, with the aim of bringing together Associations and Consortiums for the Promotion and Protection of quality agricultural production for the first time.

“DOS Sicilia’s mission is to promote the development and progress of the food sector sicilian region. The total value represented by the Protection Consortiums present there – explains the President Massimo Todaro – reaches 40 million euros. There are currently 16 certified quality agri-food productions attached and, thanks to the support of the Sicilian Region, with the Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries of the Mediterranean, DOS Sicily, it will be possible to network and promote, in national and international markets. international, these Sicilian products of certified quality”.
Among the main objectives of DOS Sicilia is to encourage the aggregation of producers, as well as to value, promote and disseminate Sicilian agricultural and agri-food products of certified quality through the adoption of sustainable practices in production and transformation, with special attention to environmental protection and human health. However, DOS Sicilia is committed to combating any attempt at fraud that may affect individual supply chains and to promoting sustainable consumption by facilitating the transition towards healthy eating following the principles of Mediterranean diet.
“The tool with which we will pursue these objectives, especially from a communication point of view, will be that of education – Todaro resumes – thanks to which we will bring to the territories of origin operators of the sector and representatives of the media world who will thus be able to tell the particularities of each production after having touched it first hand. It is believed that it is the most effective way to reach the consumer, so much so that we already have an initial calendar of appointments prepared, divided between 2023 and 2024”.
The meetings already scheduled will be 17 and will last one day for each individual event; The start of the activities is scheduled for Sunday May 21 with the first of the appointments dedicated to the individual products and the program, common to each one of the productions, from time to time those involved will include a moment of colloquium – which could be a conference or other diffusion- and a meeting that includes presentation and commented tasting of the product itself.
Therefore, the cycle of meetings will be inaugurated by the first teachers dedicated to Vastedda of Belize PDO, which will take place at Contessa Entellina in Feudo Pollichino Dairy from Borgo Roccella where, in addition to a meeting dedicated to the in-depth analysis of the product, there will be a guided tour of the farm and a show-cooking with tasting of typical Sicilian products by an Onaf Master Taster.
Educational activities already scheduled for the coming months will include other certified Sicilian products, starting June 6 with Mount Etna DOP oil, Provola dei Nebrodi DOP on July 2 and Ciliegia dell’Etna DOP the next day, on July 15. of July. instead, it will be the turn of Mazara DOP Oil and the 23 Pecorino Siciliano DOP, the cycle of meetings will close on September 8 with Pesca di Leonforte.
