But we are trying to guide the project also in the accompaniment of families. Because disability is an important, exhausting issue, and many times families cannot do it because they are alone and abandoned. If we manage to create a reality that also supports the family, we strengthen them and give them the opportunity to be close to their children. This is the project we are imagining for an extension of the Casa di Matteo.

In our experience, unfortunately, we often register dropouts, but also the fatigue that many families experience when they find out about the birth of a child with serious pathologies or disabilities. Parents are often very scared, because they do not know the world of significant disabilities or pathologies. They feel alone and those who do not have the financial support of the institutions may react with abandonment or carelessness from their parents. Sometimes the social services have to intervene, other times in collaboration with the ASL it is decided to entrust the children to structures like ours because there are particular situations, parents who already have a disabled child or do not have the financial strength to care for a child 24 hours a day disabled. And in the end we decided on a structure like ours that is closest to what a family could be. With our experience we could train these families to face these complex and delicate situations.
