With the entire 50m butterfly podium from last year’s World Championships gone, the course in Fukuoka, Japan is wide open and plenty of swimmers could win gold.
Tomas Ceccon, Best known for his backstroke ability and speed in both the freestyle and relay, he swam a season-high personal best in the 50m butterfly (22.84) at the Sette Colli Trophy a few weeks ago.
Ceccon’s personal best of 22.79 is the national record and was achieved in the semifinals of the 50 fly at the 2022 World Championships. In the final in 22.86, he finished in fifth place.
The mid lane tonight was taken by the French Maxime Grousset thanks to the time achieved in the semifinals of 22.72, which also represents the French record in the distance.
Tomas Cecon He enters the final of the men’s 50m butterfly just minutes after contesting the semifinals of the 100m backstroke, where he made his first entry into the final in a time of 52.16.

Swim one lap maximum. Ceccon starts from lane number 6 and lines up with the others, while Rose and Grousset try to advance, but Tomas Cecon he puts an unprecedented march in the last meters and wins the gold medal.
With a time of 22.68 he is the first Italian World Champion in the men’s 50m butterfly and lowers the national record. He is also the first gold in swimming of these World Championships.
The previous Italian record was set by Ceccon in 22.79 at the World Championships in Budapest in 2022.
Speaking to the microphones, Rai Ceccon declared immediately after the race:
I am very happy, maybe I wanted this medal more than the 100m backstroke. He knew he could swim in this weather, he just had to hope that the others did a little worse. It’s like last year, I did the 100m backstroke which I think was excellent and now the 50m butterfly. I’m really happy.
The title is the title. I don’t really like the 50s very much, but this race was really good for me.
Portuguese Diogo Ribeiro wins silver setting the national record and, above all, lowering his own junior world record with the time of 22.80. Ribeiro set the junior world record in 22.96 at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.
The French closes the podium Maxime Grousset with the time of 22.82.
