First they set fire to the cell and then waited for the officers to arrive to attack them with kicks and punches: a crazy night in the Neapolitan juvenile prison of Nisida where four prison police officers were forced to seek medical attention. For everyone the forecast is 15 days.

For some time, those responsible for the Neapolitan youth institution had been concerned about the climate of tension that had been created in the structure of the islet that dominates the Coroglio area. Especially after a few dozen young inmates of North African origin were transferred from the North: their arrival would have caused tension and discontent among the detained population made up of Italians. And there had already been serious episodes of violence between rival groups, which led to real fights, one of which was only quelled thanks to the quick intervention of the prison police, during a soccer game on the school field.

But back to last night’s riot. One of the agents lost a tooth, another has several stitches in his head and two others were intoxicated by the smoke. In a joint note the unions UsppUil PP and Sinappe emphasize once again that “there are too many foreign prisoners from northern Italy who are causing the youth penal system of Campania to plummet, where the repetition of critical events is also undermining the rehabilitation of the other minor prisoners present.”

For the three unions, the time has come to “remove legal benefits from those who are the protagonists of attacks against colleagues to whom our solidarity is directed.”
