Weather: Strong THUNDERSTORMS with HAIL are about to return; Let’s see when and where they attack [Mappa]
From heat to violent stormsFrom great heat to violent storms with great hail, the step is short. The week, which has just begun, is registering record temperatures, with maximum peaks even above 45°C on the main islands, above 38-40°C in much of the center-south and scorching heat even in the northern plains. But right here something is about to change.
The cause of abnormal heat is always the same: the presence of the notorious african anticyclone which draws air masses of subtropical origin directly from North Africa (Sahara desert). Making the heat even more unbearable are the high levels of humidity (embarrassment) that cause physical discomfort.
Among the effects of this changing climate (towards the heat) the risk of extreme weather events. In fact, with heat, the potential energy involved also increases and, above all, thermal contrasts are especially enhanced, creating a lethal mix for the development of impressive storm cells, even up to 10/15 km high. In fact, it often happens that after a heat wave, large amounts of moisture and heat stagnate in the lower layers of the atmosphere. Subsequently, with the first cool and unstable gust at high altitude (generally downslope from the North Atlantic), convective movements (warm rising air) favor the genesis of violent storms, with a high risk of hail AND popthe dangerous linear winds with gusts of over 100 km/h.
And that is exactly what we expect in the next few days: between Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 at risk will be above all Alps where we do not exclude the possibility of heavy hailstorms in the afternoon, especially near the borders and areas close to them.
Then our attention turns to the second part of the week: the map below clearly highlights the arrival of a dangerous one. storm break caused by a flow of more unstable currents from the Atlantic.Dangerous storm rupture is expected during the day of Friday, July 21Eyes focused mostly on friday july 21 when we do not exclude the possibility of violent storms: the classic extreme events that are also increasingly affecting our country, interrupting at least momentarily the waves of scorching heat. He higher risk regions they will be those northerners that they will find themselves in a kind of convergence zone where different air masses interact: on the one hand the humid heat of the African anticyclone and on the other the Atlantic currents.
