On the afternoon of Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna, Bishop Ilario Macchiavelli died. He was 88 years old.
Born in Livergnano, a village in the Municipality of Pianoro (Bologna), on September 2, 1934, after his theological studies at the Bologna Seminaries, he was ordained a priest on July 25, 1961 in the Basilica of S. Petronio by Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro. .
On September 1, 1961 he was appointed parochial vicar of S. Bartolomeo della Beverara, while from September 1, 1963 to September 1, 1967 he was parochial vicar of S. Maria Goretti.
From 1967 to 1970 he was Officiant at S. Cristoforo.
On October 5, 1970, he was appointed parish priest of Gugliara in Gardeletta and parish administrator of S. Martino di Caprara and S. Maria Assunta of Casaglia di Caprara, where he worked so hard to enhance the memory of the dramatic events of September-October 1944. , informing the light and restoring as far as possible the places of life and faith of the populations victims of the massacre and thus contributing to the creation of the “Sanctuary” of Monte Sole.
On February 8, 1971, he assumed the position of substitute vicar of the treasurer of S. Maria Assunta of Villa d’Ignano (parish suppressed in 1986 and divided between S. Giovanni Battista di Vado and S. Martino di Battedizzo) and from February 20 January in In 1984 he became Parish Administrator of S. Maria Assunta of Villa d’Ignano, a position he held until 1985.
From August 1, 1985 to 2013 he was parish priest of Santi Giuseppe and Carlo di Marzabotto, being parish administrator of Gardeletta, which in 1986 incorporated the suppressed parishes of S. Martino di Caprara and S. Maria Assunta of Casaglia di Caprara, assuming the denomination of S. Nicolò di Gardeletta, of which he was the parish administrator until 2020.
On August 28, 1985, he was also appointed parish administrator of S. Maria di Canovella, a parish also suppressed in 1986 and added to Saints Giuseppe and Carlo di Marzabotto.
From October 11, 1995 to February 15, 2000 he was the parish administrator of S. Maria Assunta di Luminasio.
From September 1, 1967 to September 1, 1970, he was secretary of the diocesan group for the formation and updating of new priests. In the same years he was professor of religion at the Technical Institute of Surveyors “A. Pacinotti” in Bologna.
On January 31, 1988, he was appointed statutory canon of the Collegiate Church of S. Maria Maggiore in the Basilica of SS. Bartolomeo and Gaetano.
On May 12, 2020, he received the pontifical honor of Chaplain from His Holiness.
The Funeral Mass will be presided over by the Cardinal Archbishop on Monday, May 29 at the parish church of Ss. Giuseppe and Carlo di Marzabotto.
The body will rest in the Livergnano cemetery.
