At the opening, the greeting of the Director General for the Environment, Ecological Transition and Protected Areas of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital Rocco Ferraro:
“We are all involved in the commitment to relaunch the man-horse relationship and to return and recognize this animal -which has accompanied us for 6,000 years in multiple aspects, from labor and human to economic, social and sporting- respect and value it deserves. When we think about the sporting dimension, we underestimate all those activities that can come after the end of a horse’s career, and all that it can give on a human and emotional level, as well as on a social level. Local institutions are directly involved, considering also that almost all racetracks in Italy belong to municipalities and public bodies. The objective is to bring the relationship with the horse to the territory in a healthy and virtuous way, first of all relaunching equestrian tourism also in a logic of smooth and sustainable mobility. Slow tourism is an engine of growth and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of which the entire metropolitan area is rich, combining culture, nature and economy. The plants themselves constitute an important portion of our territories, and can be relaunched as places of social and cultural development, as well as purely sporting, for citizens of all ages. It is our task, also in view of the jubilee year and the great events to come, to develop strategies and support concrete actions to include the horse in all our lives, giving back part of what it has given to man for millennia.”
