PRINCIPAL 118: I DID WHAT I CAN TO SAVE HIM
“The child was lying face down in the water, a sea mirror of 15-20 cm. They took him to shore and performed CPR and heart massage. He was also intubated. Although we went beyond the canonical CPR times, they did not help the child’s recovery.” This was said by Donatello Iacobone, director of 118 of the ASL Bat, recounting the dramatic moments in which an attempt was made to save the dead child in Margherita di Savoia, in the north of Bari. The boy was participating in a summer camp. “It is premature to say what the causes of death were. To be fair, let’s wait for the technical times of the judge and the coroner -added Iacobone- unfortunately the six-year-old boy was found in cardiac arrest. The rescue arrived on time and implemented all the planned cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures in synergy with the Foggia helicopter rescue service but there was nothing to do.”
The arrival of the Foggia prosecutor and the coroner is expected. Police and coast guard personnel are on the scene.
LIDO OWNER IN SHOCK “BUT THE RESCUE WORKED”

THE STATEMENTS OF THE LIFEGUARD
“I heard a man yell and say ‘the baby is sick.’ I intervened immediately”. It is the story of Salvatore Damato, the 26-year-old lifeguard of the lido ‘Paradiso dei giovanì de Margherita di Savoia, in the north of Bari, where a six-year-old boy died today. «I got into the water and I saw that the child was sick -continues Salvatore, who has been a lifeguard for two years-, we placed him on the shore, I used the whistle to ask them to call 118 and meanwhile we began to do the first first aid maneuvers. we put it on its side and they brought us the defibrillator but the child showed no signs of life”, concludes the 26-year-old.
HYPOTHESIS UNDER EVALUATION: A CONGENITAL ILLNESS OR ILLNESS
The Foggia public prosecutor’s office, which coordinates the investigations of the carabinieri and the coast guard, on the death of the 6-year-old boy today, can order an autopsy to establish the causes of death: no hypothesis is excluded, from sudden illness to a congenital pathology never diagnosed.
The boy was at the beach because he was a member of a group that left Canosa di Puglia, the town where he lived, for the summer camp. Now the coroner’s report is awaited and an investigation for manslaughter due to lack of supervision of a minor could be opened. The investigations will be based both on the testimonies collected on the ground, heard from those responsible for the summer camp, and on the findings of the Sis carabinieri, the scientific research section of the Arma.
