MARCON – Terror this afternoon, February 7, inside the Valecenter shopping center in Marcon. A commando made up of seven men armed with Kalashnikovs and with their faces covered entered the “Gioielli di Valenza” jewelry store and took the employees hostage. It happened around 7:00 p.m. when the shopping center was still open and frequented by customers. There was a general stampede, scenes of real fear. The police intervened at the scene. The bandits, after forcing the two shop assistants to hand over the jewelry, including those in the window, fled in two cars: a white Golf and a red Panda. The latter was already found abandoned in front of the “Convenience World” furniture store, located not far from the Valecenter.
What happened
There were two shop assistants in the jewelry store at the time of the attack by the bandits, who threatened them with weapons before seizing the precious items and then fleeing.
The escape and the panic
Meanwhile, security personnel raised the alarm throughout the shopping center, quickly evacuating customers from each store and the hypermarket. As has been learned, the bandits acted without shooting and no one was injured, and even less so were the shop assistants who clearly suffered a severe state of shock. The alarm provoked the intervention of the Carabinieri with patrols starting from Mestre and with the support of colleagues from the Venice Investigation Unit coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Giuseppe Battaglia. The military recovered images from the shopping center’s cameras and others located in the area that will be viewed in the next few hours. However, the loot from the robbery has not yet been quantified.
