“Today was supposed to be a day of celebration, my son is eleven years old and he wanted to celebrate with his three-year-old younger brother instead, this will be remembered by all of us as the moment of executive eviction. We had to leave what we have called home for over eight years not knowing where to go.” These are the words of Ivy Razon, a 43-year-old domestic worker of Filipino origin who lives with her husband Antonio and their two children in via Civitali 46, San Siro area, and on July 7th he had an executive notice to vacate. In solidarity with the family Cisl Tenants Union (Sicet) organized a garrison “to avoid the umpteenth eviction of a fragile family and ask the Municipality for concrete solutions for the housing emergency.” For now, after the sit-in, the eviction has been postponed to September but the situation remains precarious for the whole family: “We managed to negotiate to have another two months to find a solution but we know that, once this deadline expires, there will be other extensions – explains Giacomo Manfredi, responsible for the Sicet area – we ask that the Municipality respond to the requests of this family».
When did it all start?
«The nightmare began last year, when the eviction due to the end of the rental arrives: after a normal 4+4 contract, which we have always paid for, the real estate owner decides to sell the apartment, and in mid-2022 the first notice arrived, which should entered into force in September. We paid 2,100 euros in rent every 3 months, therefore 700 per month.
Have you left the apartment?
“No, not knowing where to go, and despite our efforts to search for something on the private market, we haven’t found anything within our reach. They had asked us to buy the house but we did not have enough money to do so. Then to top it off my husband, who worked in a plastics company, in September 2022, was the victim of a work accident, injuring his right hand and two months later he was fired. In total, between my work and my husband’s unemployment, we earned 1,400 euros with which he also had to live in four ».
Have you tried looking for a house in the private market of Milan?
“Real estate agencies with just my salary and my husband’s unemployment never call me back. Nobody wants to rent us a house in our situation. I shot them for months every day, we don’t know what to do anymore.”
Have you asked for help with a social housing project?
«We contacted Sicet and with them in January 2023 we made an official request to the Municipality first for emergency accommodation in Aute and then an instance of Sat (Transitory Housing Services) presented in April 2023, without receiving however answers. Meanwhile, the procedures for the executive eviction had begun with the bailiff, whose arrival is scheduled for today. We are desperate”.
