Biella, the European capital of textiles, will be the exceptional setting for the XXXIX Congress of the World Federation of Master Tailors, scheduled from July 31 to August 5. The news was announced during the press conference held in the Sala della Regina of Palazzo Montecitorio, by Gaetano Aloisio, president of the National Academy of Tailors. This choice, dictated by the will of the Master, underlines the identity of Italian tailoring in a place that is a symbol of textile production and creates an increasingly strong and synergistic link between all the players in this sector before the world. The Wfmt, ‘World Federation of Master Tailors’, is the most important association that brings together the best tailors in the world, from the United States to Japan.
European, Asian and American tailors belong to the Federation. A total of 7 congresses were held in Italy, including five in Rome, the first in 1954. The choice of Italy also for the next XXXIX Wfmt Congress testifies to how the beautiful country is at the center of world tailoring. In fact, Italian tailoring is recognized throughout the world as excellence. The fashion sector in Italy is a growing sector, exports have increased thanks also to a very strong internationalization network that can guarantee a successful development and future. The challenge of these years will be to transfer the figure of the tailor towards a more business and business dimension.
The National Academy of Tailors is moving in exactly this direction by training young tailors who become entrepreneurs and managers, as well as excellent craftsmen. More than 250 tailors from 28 different countries are expected to participate in the Biella Congress in 2023. Italy will be represented by the Accademia Nazionale dei Sartori, the oldest trade association in the world founded in 1575. Maestro Gaetano Aloisio is the president of the Academy and is also vice president of the Wfmt. The Congress foresees the organization of thematic conferences, fashion shows, visits to the large weaving factories in the Biella area, competitions between tailors, thematic workshops, cultural visits to the area and gala dinners with prestigious guests where all the participants will be able to taste Italian food and wine of strength together with the fashion of La Loca.
