A plan for the massive transfer of bears from Trentino to other areas is one of the measures that the Ministry of the Environment and the Autonomous Province of Trento will evaluate after the attack on the Andrea Papi corridor in Caldes. This was announced in a press release from the Ministry, after the meeting this morning in Rome between the minister, Gilberto Pichetto, and the president of the province, Maurizio Fugatti. The purpose of the transfer will be to maintain a sustainable number of specimens in the Trentino area. A technical table will be established between the Ministry, the Province and Ispra on the management of bears in the Alps.
The Autonomous Province of Trento may also decide to slaughter aggressive specimens. In the meeting between Pichetto and Fugatti, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the president of ISPRA, Stefano Laporta, the head of the Department of Civil Protection of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Raffaele De Col and, in connection, the Provincial Councilor for Agriculture Giulia Zanotelli. President Fugatti stressed to the minister the need to bring the bear reintroduction project in Trentino, which dates back to 1999, to its original goal. The minister confirmed the full collaboration of the Ministry of the Environment and recommended that Fugatti fully agree with Ispra on the procedures that will lead to the identification of subjects considered potentially dangerous to man, and responsible for aggressive behavior, towards which the president of the Autonomous Community The province of Trento has the power to adopt reduction measures. The meeting considered the possibility of equipping public security operators, as happens in other international realities, with defense devices such as anti-aggression sprays. On these, according to the Ministry, there are no critical issues from the environmental point of view. Minister Pichetto said he was willing to act immediately as spokesperson for this request before the Minister of the Interior, in charge of the matter. Among the possible solutions taken into consideration, the Mase press release specifies, is that of developing a massive transfer plan, with the maintenance in the province of Trento of a series of sustainable subjects of the territory. At the end of the meeting, it was decided to set up a technical dialogue table between the Ministry of the Environment – which under the delegation of Minister Pichetto will be represented by Undersecretary Barbaro – Ispra, the Region and the Autonomous Province of Trento, in order to quickly assess each useful action to continue the original project of reintroduction of the bear in the alpine arc, intervening in the critical problems that have occurred over time.
For Flavio Tosi, deputy for Forza Italia, “was the tragedy of the poor runner Andrea Papi in Val di Sole necessary to uncover Pandora’s box? Man and bear cannot coexist and the same is true of man with the wolf and the big predators.” Therefore, according to the former mayor of Verona, “the solution is not to kill, it is to move the bears to non-humanized territories, the writer and mountaineer Paolo Cognetti is right.”
The funeral of Andrea Papi, the 26-year-old runner killed by a bear in the forest overlooking the town, will take place tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in the Caldes parish church. Throughout the day there will be mourning in all the municipalities of Val di Sole. Meanwhile, the promoters of the ruralpini.it site, which has always been critical of the Life Ursus repopulation project, are relaunching “as a symbolic act of solidarity and closeness, an appeal that is spreading on social networks so that on the afternoon of On the day of the funeral, a lighted candle is displayed in the windows of the houses”. This morning, the governor of Trentino Maurizio Fugatti, on Radio 2 microphones, confirmed that the result of the DNA examination of the organic traces left by the bear at the site of the attack was expected shortly and that, once identified, they would be will proceed with the investigation. ‘murder. Reinhold Messner also intervenes in the matter. “Coexistence with wolves and bears in an anthropized and small area like ours is no longer sustainable. Especially taking into account the number of copies”, affirms the king of eight thousand in the newspaper L’Adige.
