General winter accompanied by COLD and SNOW can arrive in Italy in the last days of November, that is, sooner than expected! This is what emerges from the latest sensational medium/long-term update, relating to the coming weeks: an outbreak of cold of Arctic origin could affect our country, causing a drop in temperatures and snowfall to very low altitudes.
Taking a look at the main weather models ECMWF and the american SGF) it would seem that the High Pressure present in the Atlantic Ocean could push towards the end of the month almost to the North Pole: this movement would consequently cause the descent of frozen air masses of arctic-continental origin first towards the heart of the continent and then spreading towards the Mediterranean basin. we are talking about one fairly cold air mass for the period (up to -10/-12°C at an isobaric altitude of 850 hPa, approximately 1500 meters above sea level), capable of bringing a winter-flavored outburst about last days of November (from 11/24 to 11/25 onwards, this the date to mark on the calendar) to Italy.
This type of configuration is very favorable for snowfall at very low altitudes or even sometimes on the northern plains and at very low altitudes in the center, especially on the Adriatic side, since it favors the formation of low pressure in our seas, with the consequent increase in rain in many of our regions. Snowflakes could reach very low altitudes (below 400-500 m) between Emilia Romagna, Marche and Abruzzo (areas most exposed to cold outbreaks coming from the eastern quadrants), with possible invasion even at lower altitudes . However, the current predicted snow chances for the northwestern sectors are lower. However, everything will depend largely on the position of the minimum depression and the consequent currents that in this case could favor greater interest also in Northern Italy. This cold spin at hemispheric level could join us at the end of November.
