Tomorrow will be a car-free Sunday in the city of Rome. This is the third ecological Sunday of the 2023-2024 “autumn winter” season and involves, as always, the blocking of traffic within the green belt. [qui la mappa].
Traffic blocking times
The stop times are set by the ordinance signed by the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri. The prohibition hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There has been a schedule change, announced late this afternoon, Saturday, January 13. The reason is given by Campidoglio: “This modification responds to the request of the Local Police of Rome capital aimed at guaranteeing better management of aspects of public order in view of the scheduled events, including the Lazio-Lecce football match in the Olympic Stadium with the influx of numerous spectators also from Apulia”.
Euro 6 gasoline cars, electric cars, hybrid cars, LPG cars, methane cars, Bi-Fuel cars and cars with a permit for the disabled may circulate. Green light also for shared service vehicles, for 2-wheeled mopeds (50 cc) with Euro 2 and later 4-stroke engines and for Euro 3 and later 4-stroke motorcycles. The ordinance with which Mayor Gualtieri establishes Ecological Sunday also includes a series of exceptions. Below we inform, extracted from the ordinance, all the vehicles authorized to circulate.

23. motor vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles used by workers with work shifts or home/workplace that prevent the use of public transportation, with specific certification from the employer;
24. vehicles used for work on the metro lines under construction
25. Vehicles or work vehicles that carry out removals for which authorizations to occupy public land have previously been issued by the competent offices.
26. vehicles of companies that carry out work on behalf of Roma Capitale or on behalf of underground service companies, provided with the appropriate documentation of the organization for which they work or that carry out scheduled interventions with the authorization of the director
27. vehicles used for the implementation of initiatives promoted or sponsored by Roma Capitale provided with specific documentation issued by the competent sectors or with labels issued by the organization

33. vehicles used for emergency interventions by UNEP officials and judicial officials of the Court of Appeal of Rome, duly provided with a specific certification from the Presidency of the Court of Appeal itself

Motor vehicles used by entities in the cinematographic, television and audiovisual sector to carry out cinematographic, audiovisual and photographic filming for which the corresponding documents that allow the occupation of public lands have been previously issued by the Department of Cultural Activities.

Furthermore, throughout the municipal territory, among the measures aimed at containing polluting emissions, the provisions of union ordinance No. 114, of 10/31/23, on the use of domestic heating systems for a maximum of 11 hours a day are applied. and a temperature not exceeding 19°C (tolerance +2°C). This ecological Sunday comes at the right time. In fact, on Monday, January 8, two management decisions were issued that are adopted when the level of pollution in Rome exceeds the alert threshold. For this reason, for today, Tuesday, January 9, and tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10, Romans are invited to “opt for the use of public transport”, avoiding as far as possible “the use of private motor vehicles “.
